Sports Fans and Prejudice

Being downtown the other day for the huge Wildcard game that the Cleveland Indians were in, I had been aware of many drunk and crazy people. But among all the yelling screaming and cheering I seemed to really be captivated by how everyone seemed to get along. Whether you were black, hispanic, white or asian, you were cheering and focused on the same thing. Then i thought back to the lesson we learned in class how conflict can bring about prejudice and discrimination. It was funny how a common interest such as a baseball game seemed to deter any thought of racism or hatred toward one another. Perhaps sports don’t get enough credit for bringing different groups of people together, even if it for just one night.
